gEDA

gEDA

The gEDA project is a set of tools for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production. The PCB project contains a tool for printed circuit board layout.

PCB

From the PCB project page --- PCB is an interactive printed circuit board editor for the X11 window system. PCB includes a rats nest feature, design rule checking, and can provide industry standard RS-274-X (Gerber), NC drill, and centroid data (X-Y data) output for use in the board fabrication and assembly process. PCB offers high end features such as an autorouter and trace optimizer which can tremendously reduce layout time.

Downloads

This ISO image (made by Stuart Brorson) is a convenient way to install all of the tools. I have installed various versions of Stuart's ISO images on Fedora FC2 systems without issue. After downloading the image do the following mount command

mount -r -t iso9660 -o loop \ geda-install-20070221.iso /mnt/cdrom

and then run the installer program. Root access is not required for the install.

User Groups

Boston area users group. The next meeting is tentatively set for 4 December 2008 at Bear Rock Cafe (26 Walkers Brook Drive, Reading, MA) The meeting is announced on the geda-user mailing list.

NB: If you type in Bear Rock Cafe in Google Maps a location that is a mile away from 26 Walkers Brook Drive is displayed. The Google Map directions for 26 Walkers Brook Drive are correct. Bear Rock Cafe is next to Starbucks in the Jordans Furniture/Home Depot Plaza in Reading.
